Summer Style Guide: What to Wear to your Family Photography Session | Fairfield County, CT Family Photography
/I wanted to share some of my current favorite wardrobe pieces for your family photography session! I have added several of these, including that gorgeous embroidered Free People dress, in the Client Closet for my clients to use during their session (saving you time and money! woo!). What you wear in your session is one of the main factors that determine the overall look and style of your session. As I've mentioned before, I LOVE neutrals and muted tones for the most beautiful, timeless, and classic portraits. Neutrals never go out of style, they are flattering on all skin tones, and they match any interior design scheme (making your portraits look so beautiful hanging in your home...did you know having photos of your children displayed in your home is proven to increase self-esteem?!?). Some of my personal favorite places to shop for wardrobe pieces include Nordstrom, Zara, Free People, Lulu's, Janie and Jack, JCrew, and even Old Navy (they have some great finds on occasion!).
As for pulling together a whole family of outfits, one of the key things to remember is don't want be "matchy matchy." Oh and for my clients- don't worry, I will help you do ALL of this so no need to stress!!! No one in the family should have on the same exact outfit (white shirt and khaki pants for both Dad and boys for example). You want to vary up who is wearing what colors. Here is a photo of my own recent family session by Cori Kleckner Photography (www.coriklecknerphotography.com) as an example!
You can see that we all coordinate in neutral tones, but no one is wearing the same colors. I'm in gray, my daughter is in cream, my husband is in light blue and khaki, and my son is in white, chambray, and gray suspenders. We coordinate and blend together without matching. That is the goal! Here is another example from a recent family session I photographed.
Here Mom is in white and pink, Dad is in khaki and blue, and little boy is in white, khaki and gray suspenders. Again the colors/outfits coordinate perfectly without matching. So easy right!?
I hope this helps you prepare for your next family portrait session! If you ever find yourself stuck and needing some advice, feel free to reach out! I love styling clients!
