All I can say is THANK YOU for the most incredible year. I have loved every second of snuggling your babies, listening to your birth stories, helping you select your wardrobe, designing your wall galleries, making your albums, and documenting life’s most important moments for you. I appreciate each and every one of you of you for supporting my small business.

This year has been filled with adorable babies, gorgeous families, beautiful bumps, and sweet kiddos. I’ve been blessed with the sweetest clients and I am so thankful that you make my job such a joy!

I have learned a tremendous amount about running a successful small business and how I want to continue to serve my clients to the fullest. I’ve got some exciting plans for 2020!

Beach Pregnancy Announcement Photoshoot at Weed Beach in Darien, Connecticut

There are very few firsts in life and I am not sure that anything tops preparing to welcome your first baby into your family. Well… Todd, the most adorable fur-baby, may say their second! HA! But seriously, this pregnancy announcement photoshoot at Weed Beach in Darien with Kristen and Dustin could not have been more fun!

Both Kristen and Dustin were beaming with excitement as they prepare to share they are expecting their first baby. I love hearing about all the things new parents are looking forward to. It takes me back to those moments with my children and they are the sweetest memories.

Congratulations, you two, I cannot wait to follow along. This is just the beginning and I am so incredibly honored that you have chosen me as your Darien Newborn Photographer!

Connecticut Motherhood Session | Darien CT Weed Beach | Kristin Wood Photography

Elizabeth’s beach session in Darien, CT was such a treat. Elizabeth won a giveaway where I partnered with several other local Fairfield County Mompreneurs! So luck was on both of our sides as the weather was beautiful for a beach photo day. A motherhood session is where moms can come out from behind the camera and finally capture family portraits with both of her babies! I offer these year round just for moms and their kids to document the special and unique connection between a mom and her children.

This session isn’t just joyous for the mama, but her kids had a BLAST on the beach! The sun was shinning and I love to indulge them in beach games for the boys and twirling/dancing for girls. Well go head and see for yourself because these cheesy smiles say it all!

Baby Daphne's Darling Studio Session | Connecticut Newborn Photographer Kristin Wood

Baby Daphne came by my studio recently and I had the pleasure of photographing her beautiful newborn session. She was so adorable and squishy I could photograph her all day long! I was so excited to meet up with this family AGAIN! Yes I did gorgeous mamas maternity pictures at the beginning of this summer and it turned into a beautiful day at the beach.

During the session, mom selected two dresses from the client closet, which is available to all my newborn clients! Having a closet for everyone to choose from is easy and stunning. Mama also had her makeup done by my amazing makeup artist Angelina, so she could sit and relax while I took individual portraits of baby Daphne. She does a very natural look and between the makeup and picking the wardrobe, these sessions are a delight!

Darien Studio Newborn Session

I am so excited to introduce you to this sweet baby boy. It’s an honor to be a Fairfield, CT Baby Photographer, and get to photograph Caleb’s first year! We started with photographing him while he was still in Mama’s tummy at their Weed Beach maternity session. And now he’s here and so precious!

One reason I love doing newborn sessions in the studio is how easy it makes it for parents. Your only job is to show up! Once you arrive, we will start with picking out wardrobe, and then the talented ladies from BeautyMarked Studio will be there to pamper Mama. During this time I get started with baby photos and Daddy with baby!

For dad’s outfit, we tend to keep it pretty simple with khakis and a white or grey button-down or henley, depending on how casual or dressy you want to go. Baby tends to be swaddled or in a soft, knit romper. We added in a bonnet for Caleb that Mom’s dear friend made him, and I loved how it all came together.

Mama chose a beautiful, dusty blue dress. It’s flowy and perfect for making Mama’s feel confident so soon after having a baby. I also love how this dress coordinates with the dress from her maternity session. It’s something we will also consider with future sessions, especially when thinking about gallery walls and album design.

The Three Most Adorable Sisters In Studio Newborn Session in Fairfield County

Oh my goodness I loved having these three sisters in the studio for baby’s newborn session! When this family walked in to my studio in Darien, I was just in AWE of their GORGEOUS children! What a lucky man Dad is to have a house full of lovely ladies! :)

Mom and baby came to the studio first to get ready for the session! Mom picked out this beautiful neutral gorgeous dress from the Client Wardrobe (which could not have been more perfect for her!), and I got busy taking individual portraits of their new baby! Sweet girl was wide awake so I was able to capture some portraits of her awake and asleep! Once Mom was dressed we captured a few images with her and her newborn baby girl!

When we were finishing up, Dad arrived with the big sisters! Mom picked out dresses from the Client Wardrobe for her daughters to wear and we started the family portion of the session! When toddler aged siblings are involved, I work as quickly as possible to capture those “must have” moments. So often, our younger aged siblings are still trying to adjust and sitting still beside this new baby is NOT their idea of a fun day! But luckily these big sisters were amazing and needed no bribing to love on their new baby! :) Newborn sessions with siblings tend to be a little different than sessions with a first baby. I really put the emphasis on the family together and the siblings, as that is usually what Momma cares about most! But I always try to still get a few portraits of Mom with the baby alone because baby will love those the most :)

2 Year Old Surfer Baby Beach Milestone Session in Darien, CT

I’m excited to be showing you a glimpse of Jax’s 2 year milestone session from the beach in Darien, CT!

As a Mom of 2 who works from home, days can get kinda crazy…especially during the Summer when school is out! The evening of this session was one of those days! Beach sessions take place 1 hour before sunset, which is pretty late in the summer. So, my husband is usually home well before I leave for a session during the summer. Well, on this particular day, my husband had a rare meeting in NYC so he was commuting via train and his train got STUCK on the way home! He was stuck on the train and I had to leave for my session! Of course I couldn’t get a sitter 15 minutes before I needed one (though I tried) and I was really at a loss for what to do! It was super stressful for me because I HATE being late (and in fact, had never been late for a session prior to this one!). But I stayed in constant contact with my clients letting them know my ETA and put together a little thank you gift for them! My clients were THE SWEETEST people ever and were so understanding.

Two year session are always so much fun! You never know what they are going to do and they are a bit to young to understand “stand still and smile” so I just let them do their thing and document them being two! We move around a lot and keep trying new things to keep them from getting bored! He was a little unsure about the sand at first, but then decided he really loved throwing rocks into the water! I love his beautiful hair and his style went so well for the surfer beach baby look!

Beautiful Baby Girl Newborn Session | Connecticut Newborn Photographer Kristin Wood

I had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful baby girl’s newborn session recently at my Connecticut studio. You might recognize Mama as I did her maternity session as well! It is so amazing to be able to photograph a pregnant Mama at her maternity session and then see her holding that precious baby she was dreaming about just a month or so before! Her Mama is a teacher and has the sweetest soul. My favorite part of my job is meeting so many new people! I always love hearing their birth stories and about their adventures as new parents!

As a newborn photographer, I’m meeting people days after giving birth (and usually after a few sleepless nights). Hormones are going crazy, your body is in a state of flux, and often you just feel tired and overwhelmed. I love being able to provide a relaxing environment for my clients to just sit and be pampered for a couple of hours. My makeup artist, Angelina, is so incredible not only with makeup, but as a therapist, is always so comforting! Being one of the first people trusted to hold your brand new baby is not something I take lightly. I give them the utmost care while they are with me (and try to give you a little break by taking care of diaper changes!). I give your precious babies lots of cuddles and baby talk while I get them wrapped up and sleepy for their session. Loving on your babies is such a treat!

Connecticut Fall Family Mini Sessions at Waveny Park in New Canaan | Kristin Wood Photography

I’m excited to announce the dates of my Fall Family Mini sessions that will take place at Waveny Park in New Canaan. Waveny is one of my favorite places to photograph families! These are the ONLY 2 dates I’m reserving for mini sessions as the rest of my fall calendar is almost full! Yay!

There are two date options: Saturday September 14 or Saturday October 19 (with backup dates being Sunday 9/15 and Sunday 10/20). The sessions will last 15 minutes and you will receive your choice of 10 high resolution digital images (from a gallery of approx. 20 image). The cost for these sessions is $450.

Fairfield County Maternity Photographer | Beach Maternity Session in Darien | Kristin Wood Photography

Ah, this beach maternity session in Fairfield County was truly magical. This sweet couple resides in Fairfield, Connecticut and is excited to be welcoming their first child soon! They are First Year Collective members so I am thrilled to get to work with them to document the incredibly special year ahead with their baby!

Michelle and I had an in person meeting to discuss what all they were looking for in a newborn photographer and about their previous experiences with photographers. We also discussed what they had in mind for their maternity session. After we set the date for the session, I contacted my makeup artist, Angelina with Beautymarked Studio, and booked her for the session. Angelina went to my client’s home that afternoon and gave her a natural, glowy look for the session. Michelle also went to Le Boudior for an awesome blow out. I was so excited to her text that afternoon saying how much she was loving this day of pampering, which is always my goal! I always want the client’s to feel special and have a memorable experience! Once she had her hair and makeup done, they drove to the studio and she tried on lots of dresses from the Client Closet until she found the perfect dress! She wanted something simple and something with sleeves. Her selection was spot on and looked amazing on her!

After we settled on her husband’s outfit, we headed out to Weed Beach in Darien. Weed Beach is one of my favorite places for sessions! The weather seriously could not have been more perfect it was sunny and low 70s with just a slight breeze- the best!

Today I’m going to start sharing a few photographs from Motherhood Sessions that took place at my studio in Darien, Connecticut. The Motherhood Event was a super special day of pampering for my clients where they received professional makeup by Beautymarked Studio, personalized wardrobe styling from the Client Closet, Swag Bags of full of goodies from local mompreneurs, yummy refreshments, custom jewelry from a local artisan M.Belle.Ish, and a bouquet of flowers from an awesome local florist and friend, Courtney with Arranged Floral Design Studio! I love showing my clients how much I appreciate them and this was a great way to do it!

Ashley and her sweet family became my client’s last year when I photographed her family at Waveny Park for her son’s first birthday! It is still one of my favorite sessions to date. I was so excited that she signed up for the Motherhood Event! She is such a sweet soul. She is a true Southern girl like myself so of course we hit it off! She and her little boy are the cutest together! He loves his Mama something fierce (isn’t that the greatest thing about little boys?!). He was really busy exploring the studio so we had to play some fun peekaboo games to keep him interested in photographs. I love how this session turned out! Doesn’t Ashley look so beautiful?! Angelina did a really natural, glowing look on Ashley and then she picked one of my most favorite Free People dresses from the Client Closet!

Connecticut Family Photographer | The Motherhood Event by Kristin Wood Photography

Motherhood is such an important part of my life. It has changed me and completed me in so many ways. It has propelled me into a career that is so fulfilling. I am, who I am, because I’m a Mother.

And because of what an essential role Motherhood has been in my own life, capturing Motherhood is so important to me. There is nothing more special or more beautiful than the relationship between a child and their Mother, especially when those children are young. They will never love and need us as much as they do right now in these early years.

This year, to honor Mother’s, I hosted The Motherhood Event at my studio! It was a special celebration just for Mom’s and their little ones. We started off the morning with a little pampering for each of the moms by my makeup artist Angelina with Beautymarked Studio. She gave them a little makeover and some time to relax. Then the Moms headed to the Client Wardrobe and I helped them select outfits for them and their kids. Once they were dressed, we did a short photography session to capture some sweet moments with their kids. And finally there were lots of refreshments to enjoy, including some gorgeous custom designed sugar cookies by the Housewife of Darien. Each Mom received a swag bag filled with a few of my favorite beauty items and a handmade piece of jewlery by M.belle.ish. And to top it all off, my friend Courtney with Arranged Floral Design Studio prepared a gorgeous bouquet of flowers for each Mom to take home! It was such a fun experience and I know all the Moms left feeling so loved and appreciated! I can’t wait to bring this back next year!

Beach Maternity Session in Connecticut | Fairfield County Maternity Photographer Kristin Wood

This beach maternity sessions was so much fun….and filled with some crazy strong winds! My clients came to the studio prior to the session for Mom to select a dress from the Client Closet. While she was trying on different options, we checked the weather and it was cloudy, but no rain in the forecast. Mom selected this gorgeous Fillyboo Maternity dress in a perfect shade of blush pink and we headed to Weed Beach in Darien.

When we arrived at the beach, the wind was intense! Even thought the beach is only 3 miles from my studio, it can be totally different weather at the beach! We decided just to work with the wind and it made for some amazing windblown dress and hair photographs!

Connecticut beaches (especially in Fairfield County) are pretty rocks with little to no waves due to Long Island. They are pretty and unique in their own way and are my favorite outdoor location for sessions. This session was shot at low-tide (as opposed to the maternity session a few posts back that was shot at high tide) so the beach looks very different!

This couple was so sweet and a lot of fun to work with! I loved all the tattoos (don’t they look so neat in photographs?!) and am looking forward to meeting their baby very soon for Newborn photos!

Fairfield County Newborn Photographer | CT Studio Newborn Session by Kristin Wood Photography

This gorgeous family made the short drive from Greenwich to my studio in Darien for their Newborn Session. They had one adorable little girl already and were welcoming another baby girl to the family! They did a delayed Newborn session so baby was about 7 weeks old during her session.

We styled the whole family, even Dad, from the Client Closet for this session and they looked amazing. Mom chose one of my favorite Free People dresses and a stunning Fillyboo dress to wear during the session. We put big sis in a Jamie Kay ivory dress and Dad in an ivory shirt. The outfits blended so well together and put all the focus on their connection and emotions.

Big sister was so in love with her new baby! It is always so fun to see how the siblings are going to react to their new baby. This baby was BEAUTIFUL. Just look at those big, bright eyes! They were a dream to photograph and such nice people!

Connecticut Maternity Photographer | Fairfield County Beach Maternity Session by Kristin Wood Photography

Ah beach maternity sessions make my heart sing. The beach is definitely my happy place, which was a huge selling point when we decided to settle in Darien (with Westport being a close second but the added commute for my husband made Darien the ideal sleepy Connecticut town for us….but I digress). Weed Beach is such a beautiful spot and is always my go-to spot for beach photography sessions.

Maternity photos are often under-rated, but I think they are so important. As a woman, we are only pregnant for a very short time in our life. It is a time that we look forward to and dream about long before it ever happens. We wonder what it will feel like to be growing a little life inside our belly and what we will look like with a bump. It is also a transformative time in your life as a couple. It is the last time it will ever be “just the two” of you. There is so much awe, excitement, and anxiousness being shared between you while you are expecting your baby. I just think it is such a unique and special time in your lives and a time you will always want to look back on and remember. Lastly, your kids will love looking at photos of you when they were in your belly!

This soon-to-be Mama booked a Bump-to-Baby collection which includes the maternity and newborn session. She came to the studio before the session to pick out her dresses. Her husband was so fun and helpful with styling her for the session! I love when husband’s have opinions (mine is almost always right when it comes to what looks best on me and I find that to be the case every time with clients too!). She selected 2 gorgeous maternity dresses from the Client Closet and we headed to the beach for their session!

It was sprinkling when we left my studio, but we made the call to go for it. Once we made the short drive to the beach, it never rained another drop and the sun even came out at the very end of the session! I’m obsessed with these gloomy skies portraits (we get a lot of gloomy weather here so they are fitting for the East Coast! ha!) and how her dress perfectly matched the water.

Connecticut Baby Photographer | In Studio Newborn Session in Fairfield County- Darien

Oh my goodness I’m so obsessed with this session. This precious family drove to my studio in Darien, CT for their baby session. They delayed getting a newborn session a bit and opted to wai until their daughter was 11 weeks for their session. Babies change SO much week to week so I try to help my clients in deciding what timing is best for what stage they want to capture. I never turn a family away due to the age of a baby. All babies are beautiful and with my more relaxed and natural style of photography, age truly doesn’t matter. You can obviously see a big difference between this bright-eyed cutie and a week old newborn, but regardless, the important thing is to document these early weeks because babies don’t keep!

Momma had her makeup done by my wonderful makeup artist, Angelina with Beautymarked Studio. Angelina always does a natural, glowing look for my Momma’s and she nailed it here! This Momma was truly stunning. After she was finished with her makeup, we selected 2 dresses from the Client Closet for her to wear during her session.

This sweet baby girl had the MOST amazing hair. She was so sweet and even fell asleep in my arms while we waited for Momma to finish getting ready. We styled her with bonnets and bows and of course got a couple of that natural hair style!

Lifestyle Newborn Session in Darien, CT | Fairfield County Connecticut Newborn Photographer | Kristin Wood Photography

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing 5 day old Nick and his family! This lifestyle newborn session in Darien, CT is an example of everything going right at an in-home session! The family was gorgeous (see below!) and so very kind and sweet with such gentle souls. Their home was beautiful with TONS of natural light (aaahhhh a dream come true for photographers). New big brother Dean was a champ and so much fun to work with (I just love little boys…probably because I have my own not quite so little boy). It was such a great session and I walked away feeling inspired and reminded of why I love my job so much!

The family did a wardrobe change during a feeding break, which is always lots of fun! They have two very different looks, but they are neutral enough that the photos work together seamlessly.

I am LOVING these Simply Baby mini sessions that I offered this month. I adore babies (I mean, who doesn’t?!) and these sessions give me all the feels. I could cry tears of pure joy during these sessions. They are so cute at this stage- sitting up but not crawling. Doing all the cute babbles, grabbing their feet, rolling over. It’s just adorable overload. The Client Closet is well stocked in simple baby outfits that are perfect for these sessions so you don’t even have to worry about what your baby will wear! Harry was such a cutie pie during his session. He was so happy and curious. I could have played with him all day.

Connecticut Baby Photography | 3 Month Session Lifestyle Studio Session by Fairfield County Photographer Kristin Wood Photography

This 3-month milestone session was definitely memorable! Not just because this is one of the sweetest families I’ve working with, but because little Nico was really showing out! This family traveled from Fairfield to my studio in Darien for their session. This was their first session as a family of 3 and I was so honored to get to document this special time for them.

This mama is STUNNING. Her hair and makeup were perfection. She came in her sweats (as I encourage all Moms to do) and had fun “shopping” the Client Closet for the perfect dress. She selected my very favorite dress (the white hand embroidered Fillyboo) from the wardrobe and I definitely oohed and aahhed when I saw her all dressed up. She looked like a goddess. Unfortunately, that dress didn’t make it through the session…more on that later! LOL! Her next choice looked gorgeous as well (pretty sure she could make a paper sack look good). Hubby was so patient, helpful, and loving with little Nico. I could tell these two were having a blast figuring out this parenting thing together.

The session was going wonderful until Baby Nico decided to show out with a blow out! LOL!!! Poop Happens! He had to get a bath mid-way through his session in the studio bathroom sink (so glad the studio has a sink and a washer/dryer close at hand because babies poop!)! I know it was stressful for Mom and Dad to deal with when they weren’t at home, but I couldn’t help but smile as it brought back so many memories of my own babies! They both had a knack for having major blowouts, especially when I didn’t have backup clothes! It’s like somehow they knew I was unprepared and just let it go.

I remember one time when we were at a friend’s house and Liam had his very first major blow out. He ended up riding home in a diaper, one sock, and a swaddle blanket draped around him! Somewhere I have a photo of him from that moment. In the moment it was stressful. Once we were settled in the car it was hilarious. And now, 6 years later, it’s a memory I never want to lose. Funny how that happens. Being a parent is SO hard in the moments. But when a little time passes and we have a new perspective, we see just how much even the hard moments were worth it.

Anyway, it was a blast and a session I will definitely remember not just for the excitement but also for what a beautiful family they are, inside and out! Here are some of my favorites!

Oh how I adore this family! They are so gracious, kind and humble. They are new residents in Darien and have a gorgeous new home. They made the move from “the city” (that means NYC as I’ve learned) to the suburbs, and are thrilled to have so much space! We snuck in this in-home family session on one of the last nice days we had this fall! There home was perfect for an in-home session with lots of natural light and beautiful decor. Mom and Dad have their hands (and hearts) full with two sweet young toddlers, but are loving every second of it (as you can see in these photos!)! Here are some of my favorites from their session!
